Susan Warner Keene

Susan Warner Keene is a Toronto-based artist working in handmade paper and textiles who has been exhibiting in Canada and internationally since 1980.

She is represented by David Kaye Gallery, Toronto.

Her work is in the collections of the Canadian Museum of Civilization, the Canada Council Art Bank, the Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Cambridge Galleries, Cambridge ON, UBC Museum of Anthropology, as well as in many corporate and private collections.

In addition to her gallery exhibitions and commission work, Keene has been active as a lecturer, teacher, writer, editor, and curator. She has taught numerous courses and workshops at such institutions as the Ontario College of Art, Toronto; the Banff Centre, Alberta; Arctic College, Baffin Island; Sheridan College School of Crafts and Design, Oakville; and Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, Maine.

Keene was a consultant to the Institute of Contemporary Canadian Craft for two symposia and publications, produced exhibition catalogues for the Textile Museum of Canada and the Ontario Crafts Council, and served on the Public Art Policy Advisory Committee for Metropolitan Toronto.

In 1991 she was presented with the Prix Saidye Bronfman Award for Excellence in the Crafts in recognition of her work and her contribution to the development of the crafts in Canada. She was elected to the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts in 2005.
