Gertrude Kearns

Toronto, Ontario

Gertrude has worked both officially and unofficially as a Canadian War Artist for over two decades. She is war artist in residence at the Royal Canadian Military Institute, Toronto.

In progress since 2006 are two parallel bodies of work predominantly about the nature of command and soldiering in the current Afghanistan Mission: an extensive group of Canadian Forces portraits and the related series of fine art texted Canadian Defense War Prints pertaining to each subject.

Her works are in private and institutional collections in Canada including The War Art Collection, Canadian War Museum; The Art Gallery of Nova Scotia; and the Department of National Defense. She is represented in numerous Defense and Contemporary Art publications including Magenta's 2008 CARTE BLANCHE vol 2, Painting.
