Gertrude has worked both officially and unofficially as a Canadian War Artist for over two decades. She is not currently affiliated with a commercial gallery.
Completed 2006-2018 is ‘The ART of COMMAND: portraits + posters from Canada’s Afghan Mission’. Her most recent exhibitions were at Canadian Forces College, Toronto 2017-2018, and in Calgary at Founders’ Gallery, U of Calgary, The Military Museums, 2016 following Fort York Visitor Centre 2015.
Kearns’ works are in private and institutional collections in Canada including The
Beaverbrook Collection of War Art, Canadian War Museum, Ottawa; The Art Gallery of Nova Scotia Collection; and the Department of National Defense; The Royal Canadian Military Institute, Toronto.
In 2018, Kearns embarked on a U.S. military project. A documentary in progress through 2018 by Canadian filmmaker Paul Culliton, based on The Art of Command, is due for release later in 2019.
