Janet Bellotto (Montreal/Toronto) is an artist, writer and curatorial initiator. She is a graduate from the Ontario College of Art & Design, Toronto, and obtained an MFA from Concordia University, Montreal. She was Assistant Editor for Tandem, of the Toronto Italian Daily Newspaper, and Managing Editor of the book Impulse Archaeology.
Much of Bellotto's practice has included the organization and realization of several projects in Montreal, Toronto and Mexico with various artist collectives like yellowhat, Fresh Air and Sonnet Projects. Her most recent projects include ON Trespassing, Toronto (2002), Shout at Eternity, Montreal (2002), and Vitae, Hotel Isabel, Mexico City (2003). Her own work involves sculpture, installation, photography, sound, video and performance. She is most interested in exploring the multiplicity of water and in the erosion, the almost everyday disappearance of private space: escape- the dreamscape, in-between states and places that are fluid and aqueous. Recent exhibitions include The Red Head Gallery, Toronto (2004) and Gallery 3D, Venice (2005).
