In response to the increased academic interest in curating and the global re-thinking of the role of the contemporary art curator, the CCCA has created a new section of the Canadian Art Database which profiles Canadian curators of contemporary art.
Several models for what constitutes a 'curator' have emerged in recent years: the curator as collector, the curator as author, the curator as collaborator, the curator as steward, and the curator as artist / artist as curator, among others. This new section will begin to introduce the professional activities and accomplishments of some of Canada's leading curators - working independently, collaboratively and within institutions.
We hope that this section will act as a valuable resource in tracing the ongoing relationships between curators and contemporary artists, and by providing content for a variety of open-ended discussions about the concerns, challenges and methodologies of curating in a contemporary context.
