Adriana Kuiper
METROPOLIS is a re-examination of architectural structures and
their ability to provide safety and refuge against overwhelming
forces, natural or otherwise. Renewed fears of invasion and
heightened notions of fear prompted Kuiper to look more closely
at "impenetrable" structures such as underground bomb
shelters and pre-fabricated storm shelters. These suggestive spaces
and claustrophobic environments are removed from most people’s
experiences and yet are submerged in our collective consciousness.
