"Reading those large paintings, each some eight feet high by five feet wide, the eye finds itself led through intricate passages that traverse and penetrate an aggregate complex of imagery in which hints of tools and implements of various sorts are jumbled together with toys, candy furniture, machinery, food, containers, packaging. All blurred, blunted, softened and rendered malleable in a shadow space that appears to shift continuously between illusionist projections and the fragmentary autonomous surface of the canvas." - Kenneth Coutts-Smith
