Plug In ICA, 286 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Australian-Chilean artist Juan Davila was in Winnipeg to install an exhibition of three large-scale computer- processed jet-spray paintings. Davila came to Winnipeg three years ago to conduct research in to the history of artmaking in this region. Davila is concerned with regional identity, living cultures and forms of art that represent cultural identity, claiming the need for constant re-evaluation and questioning of adopted strategies for artmaking that arrive from larger centres. Davila's project is an extension of his show at the Chisenhale Gallery, London. A new piece was commissioned for Plug In called Winnipeg General Strike. Davila's new work, accompanied with a text by Wayne Baerwaldt, will be included in the upcoming catalogue for the Second-hand Images show. - Plug In Inc.
