Robert Flaherty: Photographer / Filmmaker. A landmark exhibition of 139 photographs by the legendary filmmaker Robert Flaherty, taken in Canada's sub-Arctic between 1910 and 1921.

"The exhibition Robert Flaherty Photographer / Filmmaker was initiated to repatriate virtually unknown images, themselves powerful visual documents, for the people of whom they were made, and to illustrate Flaherty's previously unexamined achievements as a photographer," writes Jo-Anne Birnie Danzker, who organized the show.

The VAG, in collaboration with the Pacific Cinematheque, shows four films by Robert Flaherty at the NFB Theatre: Nanook of the North (1922), Moana (1926), Man of Aran (1934), and Louisiana Story (1948). (The exhibition will tour the Northwest Territories and Arctic Quebec as well as to Ottawa and The International Center of Photography, New York.)
