Evolution(french)
Serge Tousignant discusses how his work has evolved through
several different mediums and techniques. His early 2D work in
painting and drawing lead to folded prints and sculpture by the
late 1960s. This cycle peaked in a series of large installations
that depended on viewer participation. By the 1970s he had
begun working with photography. Since then, to his surprise,
he has "remained faithful" for 35 years to a medium,
which he believes is the best for playing with optical illusion.

Lune 2 (french)
In the piece, "Les Phases de la Lune" Tousignant plays with
variations on a theme. Photographs of the moon printed
with a dot patterned, halftone screen have each been placed
in a coloured shopping bag, then re-photographed.
This playful piece invites the viewer to choose a moon
to suit their mood.

Printmaking (english)
After completing four years of art school, Serge joined a small
group at L’École des Beaux-Arts printmaking studio. Influenced
by other established artists who were there, like Albert
Dumouchel and Gilles Boisvert, Tousignant made the transition
from student to "young artist trying to do his thing"
in an atmosphere of freedom and commitment.
